When we were boys my friends and I would go barefoot everywhere, from May to October. We loved getting our soles dirty - and we always compared to see who had the dirtiest. It was great fun.
Some forms of play just beg for bare feet. A lot easier to clean dirty feet than dirty shoes! Never understood kids who play in the dirt or sand with shoes on. It gets in your shoes, irritates your feet, and makes a mess of your shoes. Bare feet rule for play!
